Wednesday: Psychedelic Furs, Robyn Hitchcock at Emo’s. Don’t get us wrong: Singer Richard Butler’s archetypal 1980s new-wave band Psychedelic Furs is still well worth seeing, even though they haven’t released a record in 25 years. But it’s hard to discount the draw on this bill of opener Hitchcock, who received the prestigious Grulke Prize for Career Act at last week’s SXSW. Hitchcock’s own acoustic version of the Furs’ smash “The Ghost in You” is stunning; perhaps he and Butler might sing it together at Emo’s? $25. 7 p.m. doors. 2015 E. Riverside Drive. emosaustin.com.
Wednesday: Lili Blessing record-release in-store at Waterloo Records. Could the most promising singer-songwriters in Austin be under 21? Last month we called attention to Christina Cavazos, who at 17 released a seven-song disc that’s likely to stand as one of the best local records of 2017. Now comes the debut of 20-year-old Lili Blessing, a McCallum High School alum with a captivating voice and a gift for exquisite folk-pop melodies. Playing piano and guitar and singing both lead and backing vocals, Blessing brings a sense of wide-open wonder to songs that range from to light-hearted charmers such as “Salvador” to deep-dive explorations like “Running in Space” to the gracefully uplifting “Gravity.” While the influence of her mother Sara Hickman’s music is clear, Blessing rises confidently as her own talent on “Lifeline,” in no one’s shadow. Thursday: Shovels & Rope, Matthew Logan Vasquez at Emo’s. It seems quite a few acts hung around Texas after SXSW to play non-fest shows. Shovels & Rope weren’t an official showcasing act, but the South Carolina roots-rock duo turned up at Luck Reunion in the late-afternoon “surprise guest” slot and charmed a buzzing crowd. Opener Matthew Logan Vasquez, the Delta Spirit frontman, has no problem hanging around Austin after SXSW, since he moved back here a couple of years ago. $22.50. 7 p.m. doors. 2015 E. Thursday: A Songwriter Tribute to Wilco at Cactus Cafe. You’d be hard-pressed to find a bigger fan of Jeff Tweedy in town than singer-songwriter Graham Weber, so it’s no surprise to see he’s the host of this show benefiting the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians. More than a dozen other local musicians will take part, including Dawn & Hawkes, Suzanna Choffel, Jonathan Terrell, Bonnie Whitmore, Cory Reinisch, Akina Adderley and Christina Cavazos. $15. 7:30 p.m. 2247 Guadalupe St. cactuscafe.org.
