Friday: Music Under the Star with James McMurtry and Akina Adderley at Bullock Museum. The Bob Bullock kicks off a run of three free Friday concerts on the Lone Star Plaza with master storyteller James McMurtry. Soulful singer Akina Adderley opens at 6 p.m. and food trucks, beer and soda are available on site. Worth noting: the main event takes place on the plaza in front of the museum, but there’s a stretch of grass away from the action where little ones can play and you can still hear the tunes. Also, parking is free. Free. 6 p.m. 1800 Congress Ave. thestoryoftexas.com. — D.S.S.

Saturday: Tribute to James Cotton and Muddy Waters at Antone’s. If Chicago blues is your thing, this is the can’t-miss show of the 42nd-anniversary celebration at Austin’s home of the blues. Big Bill Morganfield is Muddy Waters’ son, and Paul Oscher and Bob Margolin were in Waters’ band. Jimmy D. Lane is Jimmy Rogers’ son, while bassist Bob Stroger played with Rogers and many other Chicago greats. Benny Turner is the younger brother of Freddie King, and Deacon Jones was King’s keyboardist. Guitarist Carl Weathersby, who recently moved from Chicago to Austin, also will take part. The event partly pays tribute to Chicago blues harmonica legend James Cotton, who lived in Austin during the last years of his distinguished career. $15-$20. 8 p.m. 305 E. Fifth St. antonesnightclub.com. — P.B.
