Patty Griffin performs at ACL Live on Saturday, April 8, 2017. Suzanne Cordeiro for American-Statesman

Friday: Mack, Jack & McConaughey with Jack Ingram & Friends at ACL Live. The big news at this annual two-day benefit for children’s charities this year is the April 12 headlining show with the Dixie Chicks. But we’ve been to this closing-night guitar-pull-styled event before, and it’s something special. The marquee names alone warrant the price of admission, yet there’s a camaraderie that happens when everybody’s onstage swapping tunes that often pushes the music into another realm. And this might be the best lineup that host Jack Ingram has ever assembled, with Austin’s Patty Griffin, Oklahoma’s John Fullbright and Nashville’s Radney Foster joining frequent participants Butch Walker, Bruce Robison, Jon Randall, and others. $49-$105. 8 p.m. 310 Willie Nelson Blvd. acl-live.com. — P.B.

Friday: Greyhounds record release at Continental Club. Keyboardist Anthony Farrell and guitarist Andrew Trube have just released “Cheyenne Valley Drive,” their latest album of soulful roots-based original tunes. Stay after the Greyhounds’ 10 p.m. performance for a closing set by genre-defying keyboardist and singer Emily Gimble (included in the $14 ticket price), or arrive early for a separate 7:30 p.m. show with songwriter extraordinaire Whitey Johnson, a.k.a. Gary Nicholson ($10). 1315 S. Congress Ave. continentalclub.com. — P.B.
