Tuesday: Ben Harper & Charlie Musselwhite at Stubb’s outdoor. A generation apart, blues harmonica legend Musselwhite and eclectic songwriter-guitarist Harper found enough common ground on their 2013 collaboration “Get Up!” to end up with a Grammy Award for Best Blues Album. They also apparently enjoyed it enough for a second go-round: Earlier this year, the influential label Anti- released “No Mercy in This Land.” One their own they’re both treasured American artists, but together they’ve created something special that starts deep within the blues yet reaches beyond it. $43-$45. 7 p.m. doors. 801 Red River St. stubbsaustin.com.

Andrew Nolte CD release at Saxon Pub. A multi-instrumentalist who’s played with local bands including Zissou, Foxtails and the Tom Petty tribute act Damn Torpedoes, Nolte proves to be an extraordinarily talented composer and arranger in his own right on his highly sophisticated nine-song debut, “Tied to a String.” This is pop music, fundamentally, but Nolte draws upon elements of jazz, classical, folk, cabaret and other styles, fleshing out his tunes with exquisite usage of horns, winds and strings. I’m not quite sure how Nolte has flown under my radar until now, but this is one of the best Austin records of 2018. $10. 8 p.m. 1320 S. Lamar Blvd. thesaxonpub.com.

Thursday: Courtney Marie Andrews at Mohawk indoor. “May Your Kindness Remain,” released in March on the Fat Possum label, has been one of 2018’s most acclaimed country releases, no surprise to those who have been following this 27-year-old singer-songwriter’s rise since her teen years. From early collaborations with Jimmy Eat World and Damien Jurado through five previous albums, Andrews has captivated listeners with a voice that recalls country and rock legends such as Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt. On the new album and 2016’s “Honest Life,” she’s also proven to be one of the most promising writers in contemporary Americana music. Thomas Csorba and Jordan Moser open. $12-$14. 9 p.m. doors. 912 Red River St. mohawkaustin.com. — P.B.
