Friday: John Fullbright, David Ramirez, Kevin & Dustin Welch at Hogg Auditorium. This triple bill of local and regional songwriters was too big to fit into the Cactus Cafe, though it’s presented by the neighboring venue on the University of Texas campus. Fullbright’s from Oklahoma but has deep ties to the Texas community and is widely respected as an heir to the longstanding tradition of Texas and Oklahoma troubadour legends such as Townes Van Zandt and Woody Guthrie. The Cactus gave Ramirez an early boost with a 2011 residency, and he’s now bloomed into one of Austin’s top-drawing indie singer-songwriters. Kevin Welch, the elder statesman of the group, has had a rollercoaster ride of late: He got married last month, after enduring his daughter Savannah’s loss of a leg in an accident last fall. He’ll be joined by his son Dustin, rounding out what looks to be one of 2017’s best shows for fans of acoustic music. $30-$45. 7:30 p.m. 2300 Whitis Ave. cactuscafe.org. — P.B.

Future performs at the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Zilker Park on Friday October 9, 2015. Jay Janner/American-Statesman

Friday: Future at Austin360 Amphitheater. Future is one of the biggest rap stars on the planet and a beast of a live performer, but that’s just the beginning. This bill goes deep with emotional trap rapper Young Thug, chart burning R&B/rap crooner Tory Lanez, breakout star A$AP Ferg and Zoey Dollaz. $34.50-$102.50. 7 p.m. 9201 Circuit of the Americas Blvd. austin360amphitheater.com. — D.S.S.

Saturday: Cumbia Roots Fest with host Kiko Villamizar at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard. Over the past decade or so, cumbia has grown into the dominant form of Pan Latin American dance music in the world. This festival explores cumbia’s origin in Colombian folk music, structured around the work of gaiteros, Colombian flute players who gain acclaim in their homeland by competing at festivals across at the country. Featured artists include award-winning Colombian outfit Trapiche de Colombo, NYC-based group Bulla en el Barrio and several Austin-based groups including Villamizar’s own ensemble and La Frenetika. $10. 4 p.m. 1106 E. 11th St. wepafestival.com. — D.S.S.

Saturday: Summer of Love 50th anniversary with Greezy Wheels, Extreme Heat, Uranium Savages at Threadgill’s South. It’s fitting that this trip down memory lane finds Greezy Wheels back at the former site of the old Armadillo World Headquarters, where they performed often during a 1970s heyday that included two albums on major label London Records. They’re still planning to record new material, but they don’t plan to play live again after this show. Joining them are two longtime fellow travelers whose origins also date back to the ’70s: jazz-funk-rockers Extreme Heat and cosmic/comic/karmic institution Uranium Savages. $20. 7:30 p.m. 301 W. Riverside Drive. threadgills.com. — P.B.

Saturday: “Daybird” series finale. The city’s ATX Music & Entertainment Division wraps up this welcome new program of free Saturday afternoon shows with local acts performing at the Austin Visitor Center plus three downtown bars and venues. Catch Star Parks and Belle Sounds at 3Ten, Shawn Pander and David Messier at Cedar Street Courtyard, Aaron Stephens and Golden Hour Quartet at Speakeasy, and the Texassippi Two and Corey Baum at the visitor center. Events run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with music starting at 2 p.m.; see austintexas.org/daybird for more details. — P.B.

Sunday: Poi Dog Pondering with Abra Moore at 3Ten. Any time the eclectic Chicago-via-Austin-via-Hawaii band led by Frank Orrall returns to the city where they galvanized in the late 1980s, it’s cause for celebration. And collaboration: Still in Austin is the marvelous singer Abra Moore, and she’ll join her old pals for the occasion. Night Glitter opens. $25-$30. 8 p.m. — P.B.
