Monday: The Church at 3Ten. One of Australia’s most enchanting rock/pop bands since they formed in 1980, the Church briefly hit the big time in the late ’80s with the radio/MTV hit “Under the Milky Way,” then gradually faded from the spotlight. They’ve kept making records all along, releasing more than 20 studio albums through 2014’s “Further/Deeper.” Original members Steve Kilbey and Peter Koppes are still aboard, with Ian Haug of Powderfinger now in place of co-founder Marty Willson-Piper. Monday: Tears of Silver at Meshed Up Productions. This secret-location touring show features an indie supergroup of sorts, combining the talents of Ken Stringfellow (Posies, Big Star), Jonathan Donahue (Mercury Rev), Grasshopper (Mercury Rev) and Jesse Chandler (Midlake, Mercury Rev). Tuesday: She Factory at the Townsend. Austinite, and former Go-Go, Kathy Valentine was inspired to start this series “to highlight the talent and artistic endeavors of women and bring together the communities of women in the arts and businesses.” The first installment, “The Song Pool,” puts a spotlight on female musicians with a top-notch roster of singer-songwriters including Ruthie Foster, Suzanna Choffel, Carolyn Wonderland, Nina Diaz, Patricia Vonne and Jane Ellen Bryant. Wednesday: The final Austin Mic Exchange at Spiderhouse. Five years ago Leah Manners, host of KOOP Radio’s “Hip-hop Hooray,” and rapper Adam Protextor launched a weekly hip-hop open mic event at Spiderhouse Ballroom. Their aim was to create a space for young emcees on the local hip-hop scene to develop and connect with like-minded artists. The event rapidly grew into a vibrant creative scene. Through their run, they hosted over 300 shows, events they say were marked by, “dopeness, rhymes, community and building something bigger than ourselves.” But now, while they still intend to host events under the AMX banner, they are retiring the weekly event. The final installment is slated to be be a blowout bash with over two dozen artists who have graced the stage stopping by to spit features.
