Weekend music picks: Shelby Lynne & Allison Moorer, Eric Johnson and more

Friday: Hayes Carll with Shelby Lynne & Allison Moorer at Paramount Theatre. Like Bob Schneider (who’s also in action this weekend, at ACL Live), local singer-songwriter Carll has the unusual ability to balance playing small rooms like the Saxon Pub with the occasional large theater show. The ringer on this one, though, is the opening act: Sisters Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer are the legitimate top draw here. Lynne, the 2001 Grammy winner for best new artist, and Moorer, whose nine solo albums over the past two decades established her as one of Americana music’s brightest stars, teamed up earlier this year to record “Not Dark Yet,” a fascinating record of nine covers and one original tune in which they tackle everyone from Bob Dylan and Townes Van Zandt to Nick Cave and Kurt Cobain. $20-$50. 8 p.m. 713 Congress Ave. austintheatre.org. — P.B.

Saturday: Cotton Mather at Threadgill’s South. This weekend marks 20 years since the release of “Kontiki,” Austin indie band Cotton Mather’s second album and the one that put them on the map after Noel Gallagher heard it and offered the group some arena shows opening for his then-king-of-the-world rock band Oasis. The band split up a few years later, with leader Robert Harrison moving on to Future Clouds and Radar, but in recent years Harrison has reconvened the old group, spurred in part by a Kickstarter-driven expanded reissue of “Kontiki” a few years ago. They’ll celebrate the two-decade anniversary by playing “Kontiki” in its entirety at this show, along with a set of new material from Harrison’s recent “Songs From the I Ching” project. Shivery Shakes opens. $10. 9 p.m. 301 W. Riverside Drive. threadgills.com. — P.B.

Saturday: Funksgiving at North Door. You’ve had a day to lounge on the couch, snooze off the turkey and indulge in leftover pie for breakfast (we’re not judging); now it’s time to get up and move something. Body rocking grooves are provided by one-man funk machine Henry + the Invisibles, Houston powerhouse Soul Creatures and DJ Chicken George with brain-bending rhyme styles from Third Root, who are celebrating the vinyl release of their excellent 2016 album “Libertad.” $10. 8 p.m. doors. 501 Brushy St. ndvenue.com. — D.S.S.

Sunday: Eric Johnson at Waterloo Records. “Collage,” a new 10-song disc that’s half originals and half covers, tops a sudden whirlwind of activity for the longtime Austin guitar virtuoso. Johnson is packaging the record with reissues of his hard-to-find “Souvenir” and “Up Close: Another Look” albums in a special Black Friday Record Store Day deal for Nov. 24. In addition, New West Records has just issued vinyl and CD/DVD versions of Johnson’s December 1988 performance on “Austin City Limits” as part of its “Live From Austin TX” series. Free. 5 p.m. 600 N. Lamar Blvd. waterloorecords.com. — P.B.
