Monday: Paul Simon at Erwin Center. Is it really the last time? We don’t always trust farewell tours, well-intended as they may be, but Simon, 76, says this is his last go-round. He’s definitely in a looking-back phase, with journalist Robert Hilburn’s new biography “Paul Simon: The Life” hitting shelves this month. Judging from performances at Bass Concert Hall and on “Austin City Limits” two years ago, it’s still worth hearing one of the greatest living American songwriters, even if there does turn out to be a next time. $49.50-$149.50. 8 p.m. 1701 Red River St. uterwincenter.com. — P.B.
Thursday-Friday: Black Pumas, Star Parks at Antone’s. The new rock ‘n’ soul project from Eric Burton and Adrian Quesada quietly slipped onto the scene in mid-February and instantly became the hottest thing in town. They play steamy songs loaded with chunky grooves — grimy breakbeats embellished with Quesada’s psychedelic wanderings. Burton’s voice rides on top, sliding smoothly from a silky falsetto to a throaty growl. The music is anchored by a strong spiritual core and the appeal is obvious: in an era of widespread despair, the band makes rock songs that feel like prayers. PR Newman opens Thursday’s show, with Star Parks opening on Friday. $20. 10 p.m. 305 E. Fifth St. antonesnightclub.com — D.S.S.
