FRIDAY

Benefit for Niñas Arriba with Gina Chavez, Sara Hickman and Suzanna Choffel at Stateside at the Paramount. In 2009, Austin singer-songwriter Gina Chavez and her partner Jodi Granado took a life-changing mission trip to San Salvador’s gang-dominated suburb of Soyapango. While teaching English at a girls’ school for eight months, they met inspiring young women struggling through daily life in El Salvador. When the couple returned to Austin, they founded the Niñas Arriba college fund. This year, Niñas Arriba has something special to celebrate: Their first college graduate. Xiomara Cordova, who studied at a private university while juggling marriage and motherhood, will attend this benefit concert and college graduation celebration. $22-$56. 7 p.m. 719 Congress Ave. austintheatre.org. — Nancy Flores

Buck Owens Birthday Bash at Continental Club. Hard to believe it’s been 25 years since local guitar man Casper Rawls began this annual throwdown at the Continental Club. Buck himself even showed up for the fourth one in 1995. Owens is gone now, but the party never ends. Hear Rawls and his pals tackle “Act Naturally,” “Tiger By the Tail” and dozens more Buckaroo favorites. The $20 cover benefits the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians. 7:30 p.m. 1315 S. Jerry Douglas Band at Cactus Cafe. Last seen in these parts with his Flatt & Scruggs cover band the Earls of Leicester at Old Settler’s Fest in April, the dobro master brings a band that will focus on his own exemplary instrumental music to the UT campus institution. Douglas may still be known most widely for his work with Alison Krauss & Union Station, but he’s also released more than a dozen albums under his own name, exploring jazz-influenced realms well beyond the country-folk genre where he makes his bread and butter. Expect to hear the full range of his talents on display at this intimate performance. $30-$35. 8:30 p.m. 2247 Guadalupe St. cactuscafe.org. — P.B.
